Separating BigCommerce from Shopify: The Key Differences

If you are an emerging entrepreneur looking to take a plunge into online business, you are probably having a hard time deciding which ecommerce platform to choose. Themes

Shopify has a wide range of themes which they regularly update with the help of freelance designers from various regions to ensure variety and different viewpoints in regards to what’s best for which business. They have both free and premium themes that can set you back a few hundred dollars at times. BigCommerce, on the other hand, won’t even let you take a look at their themes unless you sign up for a 15-day trial period with your email. If you do sign up however, you would immediately come to realize how much superior Shopify’s themes are. The prices on BigCommerce are a bit steeper than on Shopify too.

Tools

BigCommerce wins this one, not because they have a better set of tools for business owners to use, but because they have a lot more useful tools available for their customers to use right out of the box. You will be getting access to a lot more from BigCommerce by just paying for the monthly services than you will with Shopify. Shopify has its own app store where it sells some excellent tools but only as paid add-ons. Both service providers do, however, supply their customers with all the basic and essential tools on signing up.

SEO

This is where things get complicated since there is no evidence or data to confirm which one of the two big names is better for search engine optimization purposes. Shopify is the more popular and trusted choice with better themes but BigCommerce will equip you with a better set of free tools and won’t charge you for your transactions like Shopify will. You can’t really go wrong with either, but if you go with BigCommerce, you may just find it to be the more economical choice of the two.
